CALÉNDULA

Calendula officinalis, L. pot marigold, ruddles, common marigold, garden marigold, English marigold, Scottish marigold, gold button, deceased flower, calendula or cempasúchitl) is a plant in the genus Calendula of the family Asteraceae. It is used externally in the form of infusions, tinctures and ointment to treat skin and mucous inflammation, wounds or healings, contusions, bruises, boils, erythema, pharyngitis, dermatitis and as calming remedy in Cosmetics.

 

ESCOP (European Scientific Cooperative on Phytoterpahy) indicates it for skin, wounds and skin inflammations.

 

Marigold is also used in dermopharmacy and cosmetology, in moisturizing  lotions, solar cosmetics, as saponin, blue and mucilage have a great  moistening ability. Its essential oil is used to prepare wild scent perfumes  although its odor is not very pleasant.
